Background
Over the past week, we’ve kicked off the migration of around 120 websites to a new hosting environment. This wasn’t a reactive decision. It’s something we’ve been watching closely for a while.
We noticed that our old hosting provider wasn’t giving our clients the level of service we expect over time. The load speeds weren’t always the same, and even though nothing was seriously broken, it wasn’t how we think modern websites should work.
Speed, reliability, and scalability aren’t “nice to have” anymore. They directly impact user experience, SEO performance, and ultimately how well a website converts. So we made the call to upgrade.
Why Pressable?
We decided to move all of our sites to Pressable, a high-quality WordPress hosting service owned by Automattic, the same company that runs WordPress.com.
This means Pressable isn’t just another hosting provider trying to support WordPress. It’s built by a company that actively contributes to the WordPress ecosystem itself. There’s a level of alignment, quality control, and long-term thinking that you simply don’t get from generic hosting providers.
In short, it’s infrastructure that was made to work with WordPress.
What this means for your website
Faster load times
Pressable’s infrastructure is built for performance from the ground up. This includes a global CDN, advanced caching layers, and optimised server configurations specifically tailored to WordPress. The end result is that all devices load pages faster, especially mobile devices where speed is most important.
This means that users will have a better time browsing. For businesses, this means more engagement and higher conversion rates.
More consistent performance under load
One of the biggest problems with standard hosting is that it slows down when there is a lot of traffic.
Pressable has scalable infrastructure that can handle more traffic without making your site slower. Your website stays stable and responsive no matter what happens, whether it’s the start of a campaign, a busy sales period, or a sudden increase in users.
Better uptime and reliability
Downtime costs money and is annoying.
Pressable’s platform is built to be reliable and redundant, which lowers the chance of outages and makes sure your site is always accessible when you need it.
This is especially important for businesses that use their website as their main way to get leads or make sales.
Made to work well with WordPress
Pressable follows best practices at the platform level because it is so well integrated with WordPress. This includes:
- Improved database performance
- Server configurations aligned with WordPress core updates
- Compatibility with popular themes and plugins
- WordPress development is driving ongoing improvements to infrastructure.
This lowers the chance of problems, makes things more stable in the long run, and ensures your website works well as WordPress changes.
Stronger security foundation
Security is handled at the server level, not just within the website itself. Pressable has proactive monitoring, malware scanning, and firewall protection that is made just for WordPress sites. This lowers risk a lot without making things more complicated.
How we’re rolling this out
We’ve taken a measured approach to ensure everything is done properly.
Step 1: Testing the platform
We began by moving 10 websites as a test group. These sites were monitored over a two-month period, focusing on load speed improvements, uptime and reliability, backend performance and overall stability. The results were strong across the board, giving us confidence to move forward.
Step 2: Coordinated migrations
From there, we began working closely with the Pressable migrations team and our clients’ IT providers (where required). The goal is simple: make the process go smoothly with as little trouble as possible. Each migration is planned, tested, and verified to ensure everything works exactly as expected before and after the move.
Step 3: After-hours rollout
We are currently about 25% of the way through the full migration. Most migrations are happening after hours to keep any effects to a minimum. This lets us move sites without affecting how we do business every day.
What you can expect
For most clients, this upgrade happens in the background without them knowing. You shouldn’t have to change how you use your website, but you should notice faster load times, improved reliability and a smoother overall experience. This upgrade isn’t flashy, but it makes a big difference where it matters.
Last thoughts
This change is part of a bigger effort to make everything we do better. Websites aren’t static assets anymore. They are tools that need to be fast, reliable, and built on strong foundations.
One of the easiest ways to make sure that keeps happening is to upgrade our hosting environment.
